Free Groceries at Walmart?

Yes! I got free groceries at Walmart with Walmart Grocery Pickup and you can too!  Of course everyone knows Walmart for everyday low prices on thousands of items of which groceries is a big part.

According to an article at Insder Monkey, "Ranking on the top spot on our list of 11 largest grocery chains by revenue in America is Wal-Mart Stores Inc (NYSE:WMT), the world’s largest retailer in terms of revenues and one of the biggest grocers in the USA as well."

Okay, so we know their big, let's get back to the free groceries....
Last week, a coworker of mine Alice told me she just used Walmart's new grocery pickup service, said how cool it was and asked if I tried it yet. She sounded really excited. For me being a guy, I don't typically get excited about shopping. I make a list of what I need, I get in, I get out, mission accomplished. However, when she said "They even put the groceries in your car," that got my attenion because one of my wife's biggest beefs is having to lift groceries, many of which are heavy, in and out of the car.

Alice said, "You order your groceries through the app. You go the store, they have them ready for you, they put them in your car and you're done. They also give you $10.00 in credit off your first order to try it out. If you want to try it, let me give you my code, they'll give you $10.00 and they'll give me $10.00 for referring you.

Free Groceries Is A No Brainer

Walmart Grocery Pickup is a No Brainer. They say there is no such thing as a free lunch, but free groceries without a catch? Count me in. You might be saying that it's only $10.00 and that doesn't get you excited which brings to mind the question, if you were walking on the sidewalk and saw a $10.00 bill sitting there, would you pick it up?

My Wife Wasn't Impressed

Alice's enthusaism was contagious and I emailed my wife to tell her about Walmart Grocery Pickup. To my surprise, she wasn't very excited. I explained how much time it would save by shopping online or in the app, I expressed how convenient it would be for her just to pull up and have someone else put the groceries in the car, I said what a good deal it was getting $10.00 off.

She told me she prefers to shop at Trader Joe's or our local ACME, Shoprite or online at Amazon. I appreciate that she's a creature of habit and not a big fan of Walmart. Also, athough Walmart is a little over a mile from my work, it's almost 10 miles from my house.

I figured fine, let her continue to shop the way she does, I will be the one to try out the Walmart grocery pickup and save the $10.00.

I Need Toilet Paper

Yesterday we ran out of toilet paper. This is an item we usually get sent to us from Amazon. We couldn't wait the couple days for Amazon to deliver, because as you know, when you need toilet paper, you need toilet paper.

Setting Up An Account For Grocery Delivery

Setting up an account is a fast and easy process. You enter your zip code and the site will tell you where the closest Walmart is that you can get grocery pick up from and of course they send a confirmation email that your account has been created.

I entered a list of items I wanted, selected a time for pickup and checked out It was really simple.

There is currently a $30.00 minimum. My order came to $48.85 and you can see they took off $10.04. Not sure what the extra .04 cents is from. The pickup fee is free too.

Getting My Groceries

The hardest part for me was figuring out where to pickup my groceries. Alice told me there was a special place you go to for pickup but for some reason I couldn't find it. I asked the young man who was pushing 100 shopping carts where I go and he pointed me to the pickup area (which was in front of the store to the right). Duhhh.

I parked in the designated area, popped open my trunk and then called the number on the sign and gave my name. You can also check in with the app. In a matter of minutes a pleasant, cheery young woman came pulling my groceries on a wagon. I asked her a few quesitons about the service and if I could take her photo. Although she would have loaded all the groceries in my car, I took the lead and we did it together.

Walmart Grocery Pickup Summary

As mentioned above, I don't get too excited about shopping, especially groceries. This experience was an exception. It was fast and easy. It saved me time shopping for my groceries in the store, it saved me time waiting in line it saved me $10.00 on this order and perhaps most importantly, I wasn't disracted or tempted to buy any impluse items that weren't on my list. I would highly recommend it.

Of course, you don't have to switch from your regular grocery store, but if you give Walmart pickup a try, I think you will like it. Saving money for yourself and showing others how to save money is a good thing.
